Avery served as SVP and General Counsel of AAA Automobile Club of Southern California and its affiliated Interinsurance Exchange from 2002-2019. In such capacity he supervised more than 100 in-house attorneys, paralegals and other staff handling a wide variety of transactional, regulatory, corporate governance, and litigation matters, including all class action, employment and insurance claims related litigation.
Previously, he was a partner in the law firm of O'Melveny & Myers LLP. He is a 1989 graduate of the UCLA School of Law where he served on the UCLA Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif. He received his BS in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School in 1986.
Avery previously served on the Board of Governors of the Tiger Woods Foundation and the Board of Trustees of the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. He was an Adjunct Professor of Law at the UC Irvine School of Law from 2012-2015.
